Welcome Queen Mary 2, QM2 2011 Review

The Queen Mary 2 also referred to as the QM2 was welcomed into the world in 2004 with loads of news previews and reviews as it was the cruise ship that followed the world famous QE2 which was run from 1969 to 2008 by Cunard Lines. The QE2 was considered the last of the great transatlantic ocean liners until the Queen Mary 2 was announced. It is the largest passenger ship ever built at 151,400 gross tons and 1,132 feet long. It carries 2620 guests and can cruise at 28 knots which is faster than most other cruise ships today. It also has the largest ballroom of any cruise ship at sea.

The Queen Mary 2 has 14 decks that passengers can roam with sweeping staircases and large public spaces. It has a full beamed Britannia Restaurant that is kitted in full British style. The ship has 1310 cabins and offers two classes of service, the Grill Class and the Britannia Class. The largest cabin is one of the Queen’s Suites located on two tiers and with views over the ship’s prow.

The suites and apartments range in size from 506 to 2,249 square feet and are known as the Queens Grill Suites. The Princess Grill Suites are 381 square feet including balcony. The Britannia Club Balcony cabins are 248 square feet to 269 square feet with balcony. The ocean view cabins are 159 square feet with a window. There are some inside cabins at 159 square feet.

As this is virtually a floating city with loads of space it also makes some impressive journeys every year. Some of the voyages scheduled for 2011 are the eleven day trips to the Caribbean or New York to Hong Kong over 65 days. A longer journey is the 94 or 103 day journey entitled World Voyage. You can take your pick.
